WHERE TO EAT

If you are on a budget try The Beechtree Restaurant at Moray College, in Elgin run by the trainee chefs is good for lunch (term time only). Rothes, Aberlour and Elgin all have various takeaways, curry houses and restaurants.

For average prices travel to Logie Steading for a great cafe and specialist shopping.  Locally we recommend The Old Pantry, Lush  and the Mash Tun in Aberlour. The Spey Larder in Aberlour puts together a great picnic.  Waling distance from the house areThe Highlander Inn and Craigellachie Hotel.  Plus The Fiddichside Inn for drinks only.

Our top recommendations are The Archiestown Hotel, La Faisanderie in Dufftown, Johnstons of Elgin and Glenfiddich in Dufftown has a fabulous restaurant.

Feeling energetic?
The area is well known for its mountain biking and some of the best 'Monster Trails' can be cycled from the house.  The Lecht Ski centre is just a 35 minute drive and the Cairngorm Ski Centre is 1 hour.  In the summer the hill walking is fantastic and there are many munros within an easy drive for the 'baggers'.  Canoeing on the River Spey is popular and of course the number one activity is probably fishing.

Destinations for the more chilled!

Many of the beaches on the Moray coastline are simply stunning and a wonderful place to take a picnic. Lossiemouth is the closest and has the benefit of being close to the town and its amenities.

The whole Moray area is packed full of history. Why not start with Ballindalloch Castle, Balvenie Castle and Fort George. Elgin Cathedral is picturesque and offers the opportunity to climb its tower and enjoy the views around Elgin. It also has the bonus of being close to Johnston's of Elgin cashmere centre. A great place to shop and stop for coffee or lunch.

Why not explore the Malt Whiksy Trail which takes in many of the famous whisky distilleries. Come and visit in May for the Spirit of Speyside whisky festival.
